Travel & Transportation in Tenerife, Spain

road

As an island located off the coast of Africa, traveling to, from and within Tenerife is obviously quite a bit different from traveling around mainland Spain. For example, for obvious reasons the extensive Spanish railway system doesn't link Santa Cruz to Salamanca. However, as a major travel destination for European travelers (particularly British and German sun-seekers), there are tons of travel options to suit every preference and budget.

The island has not one but two major airports, ferry lines connecting Tenerife with its fellow islands as well as with mainland Spain, and a bus system - affectionately known as the "guaguas" - that will cart from anywhere and to anywhere on the island.
